Hannu Rajaniemi was born in Finland, in 1978. At the age of eight he approached the European Space Agency with a fusion-powered spaceship design, which was received with a polite “thank you” note. After studying mathematics and theoretical physics at University of Oulu and Cambridge and completing a PhD in string theory at University of Edinburgh, he co-founded a mathematics company whose clients included UK Ministry of Defense and the European Space Agency. He currently works as a co-founder of HelixNano, a biotechnology startup. He is the author of the novels “The Quantum Thief”, “The Fractal Prince”, “The Causal Angel”, and several short stories.
