Would a British robot need a green card to work in America? Would we all soon receive minimum wage, and from whom? What would the slums of the future be like? Where would they be and who is going to live there?
This coming Utopia we’ll convene to examine some of the hot and current political topics, from a technological point of view, and with a science fiction ‘twist’ – a philosophical outlook towards the future. We’ll examine together the futures we perceive ahead of us, and the ones we are working to realize.
Our main topics will be technology and inequality, the evolution of the nation-state and the autonomous, robotic, labor-free market.
Science fiction futuristic landscapes – many of them inspire visionary entrepreneurs and investors in Silicon Valley as well as Startup Nation – are often extreme, be they urban dystopias or utopian treks through the stars, while life is incremental. Nevertheless they provide us with a cultural vocabulary with which to explore our present-day dreams and nightmares as well as our hopes and fears of what tomorrow may bring.
We invite you to join us for a one day think-tank, a conversation about the roads we are paving towards tomorrow. Join us to hone our thoughts, positions and actions, in light of the grand social, political and ethical challenges that the ever growing stream of new science and technology provides us.
A collaboration with the Berlin re:publica conference | Supported by the Goethe Institute, as part of the framework of events commemorating 50 years of diplomatic relations between Germany and Israel and the ROI community.
